Coalition – October 2nd, 2018
We’re proud to announce that the winner of the DCHI Public Award for Best Humanitarian Innovation is the Can’t Wait to Learn project by War Child Holland!
On October 2nd during the DCHI Annual Event which was held in the Fokker Terminal in The Hague, the public chose this innovative education programme out of the 8 nominated pojects. Klaas Hernamdt (DCHI team lead) presented the award to Laura Miller of War Child Holland.
Can’t Wait to Learn is unique in that children can learn in their own community, even where there are no teachers. Children learn by playing serious educational games on tablet computers. The game itself includes instruction, practice, and a learning management system and is currently implemented in Sudan, Jordan, Lebanon and Uganda. The programme aims to support and supplement the traditional education model in conflict-affected areas in the short term, without displacing it in the long term.
“We’re proud that Can’t Wait to Learn won the Public Award! Great to see the public recognise the importance of education in humanitarian settings and innovative solutions addressing it,” says Kate Radford, War Child Holland.
The DCHI Award for Best Humanitarian Innovation 2018 is organized in collaboration with The Spindle. On October 11th during the Partos Innovation Festival, the winner of the jury award will be presented.
